CDT (Combined Decongestive Therapy) : is used in the treatment of Lymphoedema in conjunction with MLD (Manual Lymphatic Drainage).
                                                                                                   (see description of Lymphoedema below).

Patients receive MLD in order to remove excess fluid from the tissues (see MLD description and list of Therapists by clicking here). Then a multi-layered bandage is applied to the affected limb.  Deep breathing and gentle exercise is used to promote venous and lymphatic flow which activate the muscle pumps.  Good skin care is an essential part of the treatment of lymphoedema.

Lymphoedema is the swelling of the body and limbs as a result of the accumulation of lymph which is a colourless fluid that normally drains back into the circulation through vessels and nodes that act as filters.  Generally, the lymph system removes excess fluids, fats and proteins from the body's tissues and plays a very important part in the body's defence mechanism against infection.  Lymphoedema is a common problem which affects about 500 million people in the world today.
Lymphoedema can develop if the lymphatic system's drainage routes become damaged or blocked and lymph accumulates in the tissues when swelling (oedema) occurs.  CDT is a most effective treatment.

CHINESE MEDICINE:for more than 2000 years Chinese medicine has used the philosophy that the body is whole, connected physically, mentally and spiritually by energy (Qi).  When the body is not functioning well, herbs, acupuncture or pressure on points in the body are used to heal and rebalance this energy to flow in the correct way throughout the body.

COLON HYDROTHERAPY: (also known as COLONIC IRRIGATION) is an internal bath, clearing the colon of toxic wastes, gases, mucosal deposits and faecal matter. The whole colon can be treated and the water is not retained.

Problems treated:

: constipation,   : irritable bowel,   : flatulence and bloating,  : candida,   : fatigue and lethargy.

What does the treatment involve ?

A Colonic therapist will guide water at a regulated temperature, under very low pressure into the rectum. It is massaged around the whole structure of the colon. The water is then held in the rectum for a few minutes and the waste matter is piped away with the water.

Here is how the Association & Register of Colon Hydrotherapists in the UK describe COLONIC TREATMENT

Colonic Treatment is a treatment to aid the evacuation of waste from the large bowel and to exercise the bowel muscle. Colonic irrigation is now carried out sympathetically by well-trained complementary therapists who also advise on nutrition where appropriate.

Colonic treatment used as a naturopathic modality is particular of value in treating:

  • Accompanied by diet colonic treatment can assist body detoxification.

  • With colonic irrigation many secondary conditions accompanied by poor bowel mechanics can also be aided, especially those affecting the other eliminative organs - skin, urinary tract and lungs.

  • Primary bowel conditions of IBS, where spasm and colic may be relieved, constipation, where impactions may be expelled and the bowel muscle exercised by water temperature variation and diverticulosis where regular elimination is important.

Colonic treatment benefits can often be quickly observed in the form of improved bowel function together with clearer skin, more mental clarity, and fewer headaches. Circulatory, immune and weight problems often also improve with colonic treatment.

COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL THERAPY (CBT) is an action oriented, solution focused, humanist approach to emotional growth that emphasises the individual’s capacity for controlling, altering and creating their emotional states. It educates people in how the past affects the present. It focuses on currently held attitudes emotions and behaviours known to be self-defeating for the person, and blocks their development, thus limiting their life experience. It helps to change maladaptive thinking and behaviour to more healthy realistic alternatives and establishes new more constructive patterns for living a more fulfilling life.

Symptoms treated include: ANXIETY, PANIC ATTACKS AND AGROPHOBIA, SOCIAL PHOBIA AND SPECIFIC PHOBIA,
GENERALISED ANXIETY DISORDER (GAD), DEPRESSION,  OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER (OCD),

CRANIO-SACRAL THERAPY: developed by John Upledger this form of Cranial Osteopathy is a hands-on gentle method of evaluation and enhancing the function of the cranio-sacral sytem (the physiological body system which comprises the cerebro-spinal fluid and membranes which surround and protect the brain and spinal cord).   A gentle palpation is used to test for restrictions in various parts of the cranio-sacral system.  Subtle manipulation is used to re-balance its rhythm thereby encouraging the body to heal itself.

CRYSTAL THERAPY: each crystal carries a rate of vibration, and,  when the crystals are placed within a person's aura the vibration of the aura will also change.  This can assist the body in releasing blockages and refining energy flow.

During crystal therapy the client lies fully clothed whilst crystals and gemstones are used on the Chakras (which are the subtle energy centres of the body) to restore or maintain a healthy flow of energy.

Problems Treated:-

There are many varieties of crystals and gemstones that can be used for treating conditions on a stress level (such as anxiety and depression) to a physical level (such as headaches and pain relief).

The effects of crystal therapy can often be found to be indirect but also can be very potent or very direct - either way can help the client to work towards resolving issues and attaining a feeling of well-being and inner peace.

Crystal therapy can allow the client to reach a deep state of relaxation.
